After Release

The bail bond indemnitor/ cosigner has no specific duties after the arrestee is released from custody on bail except for keeping track of where the defendant is residing and working, and letting the bail agency know of any changes that may take place.

When out on bail, the custody of the defendant is switched from the Sheriff to the bail agency.

If you are concerned about the conduct of the defendant out on bail, or think he or she is preparing to leave the area and abscond, please call your bail agent to discuss the situation immediately. Also, the bail bond guarantees the bailee will make all of his required court appearances; it is therefore a very good idea for the cosigner and the defendant to keep in touch and talk after each court appearance to discuss the next court date.
